About this site

This website has evolved as I have learned new technology and changed the focus of the site.
The viewmaster:
My first attempt at creating a portfolio was also my first attempt at Flash. I used this site to find my internships.
Newspaper portfolio:
I created this HTML-based site before I moved to Mexico as a way to apply for jobs when I came back.
The Swiss Army Knife:
I built this Flash site to attract more freelance jobs. Instead it helped me become the lead interactive producer for STLtoday.com.

Visual storyteller in print and online

I am a journalist, illustrator and interactive producer. I paint, carve scratchboard and use digital techniques to create visual metaphors. I use Flash, ActionScript, HTML, CSS and XML to produce interactive graphics, games and animations.

After graduating from art school in 2000, I went to graduate school to study visual journalism. I was sidetracked along the way by several internships, a visual journalism fellowship at the Poynter Institute and the opportunity to teach intro and advanced courses in publication design at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

I have worked for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Austin American-Statesman, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Springfield News-Leader, Vox Magazine and Adelante, a bilingual newspaper covering central Missouri.

In 2004, I went to Mexico on an art scholarship. I returned to St. Louis in 2005 as the business page designer. Today I produce online projects for STLtoday.com and create illustrations.
